Up to the 1950s it was used by ships as a navigational landmark. Amazingly, the 110 year old original clock mechanism still works.\r\n\r\nThis Clock Tower has the distinction of being the oldest standing structure in the whole of Sabah that survived the destruction of Jesselton town during World War II. Till today, it still serves to keep the city's time.\r\n\r\nFurther up the road, the Observatory offers panoramic views of the city and the islands. Signal Hill, the highest point in the city, is one of the best places to get a good view of Kota Kinabalu.
